1. Who we are
Cineware (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a personal journaling app for logging real-life time with people you care about — including optional Memory Reels built from your moment photos. This policy explains what the app processes on your device and when the network is used.
2. Information you provide
You may enter or attach, at your choice:
- Names and details about companions (friends, family, partners)
- Moment titles, notes, activity types, dates, places, and optional mood / “feel”
- Photos you attach to moments or Memory Reels
- Plan-together reminders and notification preferences
- Backup files you create via Export backup
This content is saved in the app’s local storage on your device. We do not receive it on our servers because we do not provide cloud sync or user accounts in the app.
3. Device permissions & network use
- Photos / Library: Used when you pick images for moments or reels, and when exporting videos or images you choose to save or share.
- Notifications: Used only if you allow iOS alerts for features such as anniversaries, milestones, or optional “quiet for a while” reminders. You can turn these off in the app and in iOS Settings.
- Internet (TMDB only, optional): Used when you actively search for a film or show to link to a moment. The app sends your search text to TMDB and downloads title, year, and poster images for the title you select. No Cineware account is involved. If you do not use film search, this network use does not occur for journaling.
4. Third-party services — TMDB
The Movie Database (TMDB) — purpose
TMDB provides film and show titles, release years, and poster artwork when you choose to attach a movie-related detail to a personal moment. Cineware does not use TMDB to build a public catalog, discovery feed, or social movie list.
What is transmitted
- Search queries you type when using “Search film on TMDB” (or equivalent)
- API requests to retrieve metadata and poster URLs for the item you select
- Downloads of poster image files from TMDB’s image hosts for local display and caching
What is not transmitted to TMDB
- Your companion names, moment notes, places, mood, or photos as a bulk journal upload
- Any data through a Cineware login (the app has no user accounts)
Cached TMDB metadata and posters remain on your device for offline viewing. Requests go directly from your iPhone to TMDB. Please review TMDB’s privacy policy for how they handle API traffic.
Attribution: This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Poster and metadata use must follow TMDB’s terms; full attribution is in the app under Profile → TMDB attribution.
Apple
Downloads, updates, and App Store purchases (if any) are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. Crash diagnostics or analytics, if collected by Apple’s systems, are governed by Apple.
5. What we do not do
- No user registration, login, or social feed in Cineware
- No sale of personal information
- No uploading of your full journal to our servers
- No advertising network profiling based on your moment content
6. Sharing you control
When you use Share, export a poster, export a reel, or send a backup file, you choose the destination (Messages, Mail, Files, etc.). Anything you share leaves the app under your control and may be handled by those services’ policies.
7. Backup export & import
Export backup creates a file on your device that you can store in iCloud Drive, email, or other locations you select. Import reads a backup file you choose. Protect backup files like any sensitive personal data.
8. Data retention & deletion
Data remains on your device until you delete moments, people, reels, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling Cineware removes local app data subject to iOS behavior and any backups you stored elsewhere.
9. Children
Cineware is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through our own servers (we operate no such collection).
10. International users
Because data is stored on your device, you are responsible for the physical location of your device and any copies you export.
11. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the effective date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
