Frequently asked
Do I need an account?
No. Cineware works entirely on your iPhone without sign-up. Your moments and people are stored locally in the app.
How do I log a moment?
From Home, tap Log a moment (or use the compose entry from your tab flow). Choose who you were with — or solo — then activity, place, photos, and an optional note or “how it felt.” The record is built around who shared the hour.
Home overview, week strip & date filter
The overview card summarizes your week in plain language. The week strip lets you tap a day; the Date control in the top bar opens a month calendar to jump to a specific day and filter your timeline. Tap the same day again to clear the filter.
Where is my data stored?
On your device. We do not sync your journal to Cineware servers. Use Profile → Export backup to create a file you can save in Files or iCloud Drive.
See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do backups and import work?
Export backup writes a backup file you choose where to store. Import backup restores from a file you select. Treat backups as sensitive — they contain your personal journal.
TMDB — permission, purpose, and what goes over the network
Purpose: TMDB (The Movie Database) supplies film/show titles, years, and poster art when you choose to link a movie moment — Cineware is not a TMDB-powered browse app.
When network is used: Only after you tap search and enter a query. Your search text is sent to TMDB; the app downloads metadata and poster images for the item you pick (api.themoviedb.org, image.tmdb.org).
What stays local: Your journal entries, people, notes, and photos are not uploaded as part of TMDB lookup. Selected posters and metadata are cached on your iPhone for offline viewing.
Attribution: This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. See Profile → TMDB attribution and our Privacy Policy.
If you never search for a film, you can use Cineware without TMDB-related network access.
What are Memory Reels & story packs?
In Keepsakes, turn hangout photos from your moments into short vertical Memory Reels. Story packs (e.g. time with someone, recent weeks, your calendar year) suggest a starting set when you have enough photos; you can refine picks, choose a template, preview, and save on device. Share only when you want to.
How do notifications work?
Notifications are optional. In Profile → Notifications you can control types such as anniversaries, milestones, and gentle reminders when you have not logged time with someone in a while. iOS must allow alerts for Cineware.
Plan time together & anniversaries
Open a person in People, then use Reminders to plan a future meet-up or Anniversaries to see friendship milestones derived from your logged history.
